Everyone loves a great story, right?
We
read books and magazines, we go to the movies, we listen to the elders in our
families tell us stories. Some stories are a reflection of our own lives and
others are fanciful and fun. They make us laugh, cry, jump with fear and get us
excited. Almost every emotion available can be invoked through a great story.
Each person journeys through life with their own unique story that is touched
in a multitude of ways to the stories of others like the weave of a multi
layered fabric.
So, what are the elements of a story?
Every moment has its own story with a beginning,
middle and end: a microcosm of the total life story. Like the bricks in a
building they are stacked one upon the other to form the foundation, the walls,
the roof, the building that we call our home. Moments turn in to minutes,
minutes to hours, hours to days, days to years, to our lifetime.
In the context of your current lifetime your story
begins at birth. In itself the story of your birth is a subset of the story of
your mother and father. What happens during your birth is uniquely yours and the
result is that you come into the world with the ability to create your own
story.
The middle constitutes the bulk of the tale and
it can have chapters, stages and seasons. Along the way people, places and
experiences all come and go with some having more impact than others on how
your journey unfolds for you. Generally, we absorb all of these happenings to
create a library of information in our bodies that is reflected outward and
informs the next moment.
Sometimes though, we are so focused on other
people’s stories that we forget to be in touch with our own. We get involved in
trying to run their story, let them run ours, are envious of how their story
seems so much more fun, interesting and better than our own. We forget that we
have a choice, that we are the writers, the lead actresses and actors, the
producers and the directors. We choose the location, the set, the costumes and
what sort of character we play.
We are it ….. there are no stunt doubles!
Every day we start a new day and have the
opportunity to direct the movie. The trouble is that some of us sleep through
the movie or at least part of it, or we turn down the volume and adjust the
contrast so that it is out of focus. Others sit on the sideline, wait to die
and then die waiting.
The amazing thing about our life is that we are
the creators. Whatever you are experiencing right now is a reflection of how
much you are taking seriously your role as the producer and director of the
story and the magic you create in your life.
If any of this rings true for you, here are 5
Secrets to creating your own life story. These secrets will get you off the
sidelines and back into your story:
As you do all of these things, practice and make
small changes towards each of them you will notice how your life changes for
the better. You will attract different co stars and fellow actors, you will see
the same locations in a different light or even open yourself up to new ones,
you will be the writer of your own movie.
Now you know the secrets, let’s talk about the
end of the story.
Let’s face it, we don’t really know when we will
draw our last breath on this earth in this body. Our lifetime is a subset of
the greater cosmic story that has been playing out for eons and will continue for
eons more.
Life happens, regardless of what thoughts and
feelings, high times and struggles you go through during your time. Time passes
and the world keeps going.
The question is:
Do you want to sit on the sidelines and just be
a puppet in someone else’s story, or do you want to take a deep breath and
approach each moment as the creator of your own story?
