Something shifted inside when I gazed upon this photo one
day recently. It started with tears and
then unabashed sobbing and big cry that came from a deep place inside of me. My head down and body shaking it took me by
surprise and my tears plopped heavily onto
my desk.
The photo had popped up on a social media as I was busy about my work on the computer. My heart swelled and became enormous in my chest where I felt a deep ancient connection to everything.
I was pleased I could let my emotions flow. There was no judgement, just a profound sense of acceptance and surrender to the moment. My moment was enhanced knowing that my daughter-in-law had taken the photo and it was like I was physically looking through her eyes and sharing her genuine love for her desert life where she lives with my son. It got me. The energetic connection to family felt palpable.
Within a few minutes the emotional response had passed through and left me with a deep sense of gratitude.
As I took a break and walked, the trees in the suburb seemed more prominent and clear, sharply in focus. Taking deep, long breaths and looking into the horizon over rooftops and past roads, the afternoon sun had bathed Mt Sugarloaf and the Watagan mountains in a golden hue with the outline of the mountains in sharp focus. I could almost see the individual leaves swaying on the tree lined peaks.
My skin felt alive and responded with tingling goose bumps, hairs standing straight.
This is what happens to my being when I look into nature.
Whether it is following a well-worn walking track in New Zealand, or in the bush at Glenrock Lagoon, or in the bushy park at the end of my street, nature is always showing me how beautiful she is. With stunning views, or the exquisite miniature detail in tiny bush flowers, or the softness of moss covered rocks next to a trickling stream, or the majesty of a giant tree standing and listening and being.
I feel humbled, grateful and supported. The sights behold stop me in my tracks at times as I round a corner and the world opens up to a spectacular view. My heart skips a beat and I energetically drop to my knees in love and awe.
With this photo and my emotional response, it was something about the sky and the landscape disappearing in infinitum into the horizon to the point where the earth meets the sky. A lone tree, the colour palette, the wispy clouds bathed in the light of the setting sun, the grasses on the red soil. The energetic linking of nature and an innate connection to family all came together in that moment of profound gratitude and emotion.
In that gotcha moment of emotional release my heart grew. It was beautiful.
Do you allow yourself beautiful moments of deep emotional release and connection?
